Why this challenge
Wanting to run away from your marriage, your job, or your whole life is one of the most common and least talked about parts of perimenopause. In a 2022 UK survey of about a thousand divorced women, 73% said menopause played a part in their marriage breaking down. Yet almost nobody helps women untangle the hormones from the real problems before the big decisions get made.
Some of the urge is hormonal static: estrogen swings, broken sleep, and a decade of peak load. Some of it may be a real signal finally getting loud. You cannot tell which from inside one bad afternoon. You can tell with a few weeks of evidence, and that is what this challenge builds.
What we cover
- Why perimenopause makes escape look like the only fix, in plain language.
- A one-line daily log that turns a frightening feeling into information.
- How sleep, load, and your cycle push the urge up and down.
- Run, just not away: moving as a daily, healthy way to leave and come back clearer.
- Three questions that separate static from signal, and what to do with the real part.
How it works

- One small thing to notice or try each time.

Questions, answered
Is wanting to run away a real perimenopause thing?
Yes, it is very common. Swinging estrogen, broken sleep, and the peak load of midlife all push mood down, and the risk of low mood rises during the menopause transition. Many women describe feeling trapped, flat, or desperate to escape their marriage, job, or whole life. The feeling is real, but it is not automatically a verdict on your life.
Will this challenge tell me to stay in my marriage?
No. It will not tell you to stay or to leave. It helps you work out how much of the feeling is hormones, sleep, and overload, and how much is a real message, so that whatever you decide, you decide it with a clear head.
Is the challenge free?
Completely. No payment, no card, just your email. You get one short email every couple of days for two weeks, and you can unsubscribe with one tap any time.
Do I need the app?
No. The challenge works with a pen and paper. If you want the tracking done for you, the Phaes app lines your mood up against your sleep and cycle, is free to start, and has a free 21-day in-app version of this challenge.
Phaes is a coaching and insights app, not medical advice. If wanting to run away ever becomes wanting to disappear, please talk to someone today: in the US call or text 988, in the UK call Samaritans on 116 123.
